Gay Exorcism? What Were They Thinking?
So, I was over at, When I Write and saw this video of a gay exorcism, in Connecticut,
First, I think it is in fact an exorcism and there’s no question about it in my mind. Next, why the hell are people still doing exorcisms in 2009. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for people practicing their religion/faith but this goes beyond that. The woman in the video, Robin McHaelen was right when she said, “What saddens me is the people that are doing this think they are doing something in the kid’s best interests, when in fact they’re murdering his spirit.”. These people did think they were doing something right and thinking behind this is very disturbing. That teen is going to remember that horrifying day when someone thought he was overtaken by some demon just because he’s gay. I really hope that kid gets proper treatment because that must have been a traumatizing experience. This is definitely under the category of child abuse.
Another question why do people think exorcisms work? Besides the mere thought of exorcism being real is more-so a joke but there’s no proof of success. There’s more science behind the notion that people are born gay then there is science behind exorcism. There has and still is continued research on the “gay gene”. This would explain that people are born gay with genetic research. This involves research of the genome of homosexuals and their pedigree to draw conclusions. For example, from WebMD reporting in 2005, the work that scientist have done when studying male sexuality,
In the study, researchers analyzed the genetic makeup of 456 men from 146 families with two or more gay brothers.
The genetic scans showed a clustering of the same genetic pattern among the gay men on three chromosomes — chromosomes 7, 8, and 10. These common genetic patterns were shared by 60% of the gay men in the study. This is slightly more than the 50% expected by chance alone.
It’s actually very interesting research to read, but the point is that being a homosexual can very well and is most likely then not, something you’re born with! This is not to be confused with a couple of drunk party girls that decide to…well, you know. I’m no expert on the bible, but there’s a lot of things the bible condemns yet we do it anyway, if it isn’t harmful and that’s acceptable. When will people accept that being gay isn’t harmful. According to people of faith, everything on earth is created by god so, assuming one can be born gay, then it must have been in god’s will. Even if there is no such thing as a gay gene, there’s still no evidence/scientific proof that exorcism works or praying the gay away. And, even if you think being gay is a sin…what hell does that have to do with you?! Go about your business and be ignorant.
These people performing the exorcism aren’t prevalent throughout America but they do represent a small part of America that put their faith before science and common sense and believe in such practices of stupidity. These people belong is a mental institution. Nothing wrong with practicing your faith but this goes overboard. People need to grow up and realize gay people aren’t going anywhere and the world isn’t going to end.

nice overview of the situation… I’m still lmao at that dude wiggling on the ground, and the people actually believing it is working. Poor kid probably just wanted them to leave him alone, so he caught the fake holy ghost..
yeah, if I was in his situation I’d definitely fake it. But the throwing up part would have been overboard if he was faking it lol
well, the kid was black as well as gay, which kinda makes me believe he is prone to “overdo” things…lmao If it’s one thing black folk do in dramatic situations, it’s overdoing it to the fullest;) I can’t speak for gay people, but if I’m not mistaken, they tend to me dramatic as well..lol
I’m Black, and I approve this message…lol
A few days back, I was doing a search on a thread that was posted in the Blender forum (off-topic, of course) in 2005, about a teenager who told revealed to his parents that he was gay. Rather than accepting something that cannot be changed, they sent him to a “healing place” run by this horrible group called “Love in Action”, so he could undergo therapy to “get rid of his homosexuality”. It’s not as creepy as what’s shown in this video, but what he wrote in his MySpace blog at the time made me even more disappointed at the parents. There was even a petition, which I signed, but the forum thread didn’t end well.
Anyway, I checked the MySpace profile a few months later (won’t post it here), and just a few days back and, while the profile is now set to private, it shows a photo of him (pretty sure it’s him), sitting with his mother, so I guess things ended well. But, at what price? The parents should’ve realized their wrongdoing before sending him to such a place and not after, and the same goes for the parents of this other teenager who will not only continue to be gay, but will never forget this exorcism thing.
Parents can be ignorant dumbasses sometimes …
That’s so sad. Parents can be dumb asses, even a name like “love in action” sounds creepy. Their life will probably not be normal as experiences like this have ramifications on behavior down the line. That kid may be ok with his mom now but I highly doubt everything is 100% ok between them. I could never forgive someone if this happened to me. I had gay friends from H.S. whos parents kicked them out the house for being gay but there was family that intervened (obviously not as bad as this). I think when family members know they have a whacked out sister or aunt thinking about stuff like this that they should do something.
Of course everything isn’t 100% okay. While she now accepts her son as he is, she’s probably not accepting of homosexuality in general. Religion will always have heavy influence on these people.
Yeah, and some people take religion too literally and some pick an choose. Like I just read that the bible condemns eating lobsters and it’s a sin, but Red Lobsters is a popular after church eating place. Off topic but now I feel like people have been unfair to lobsters. People can’t have it don’t ways. It’s very hard for me to believe that they don’t know what they’re thinking is wrong.
If PETA and the church get together, the world will end!
I know right!
that’s crazy!!! wish I could correct you on the religious side to things “sinful” but that’s looooong and unnecessary lol. This, however, s another act of people trying to dicate other peoples lifestyle just because they are overly confident and proud about their own.
The bible mentions stuff about respect everywhere in all stories, prophecies etc so how these “christians” can misinterpret that is beyond me. Plus the greatest commandent is hat we must love our neighbor as ourself – not trying to say that dont respect themselves, who am i to say that?? lol but it does mply that… *ahem*
Are lobsters not sinful lol
I agree, I got said love thy neighbor commandment everyday. As I think the anti-judging other people commandment is also what these people should go by.
NO! Ok – see this is what I’m talking about with misinterpretations lol. I can pretty much guess that you read that in the first half of the Bible – rules that are now irrelevant to Christians of today. Plus that section was the Jewish laws not the Christian law.
Religion is looked down upon because people pick and choose whichever scripture suit their needs for their own benefits. If it was taken as it is, in its fullness, trust me – none of this malarkey would be happening. I kinda have to advice people to see someones faith in there living rather than the words they speak because some just say it for saying-it-sake then completely disregard it and contradict it all.
Gay is wrong in Christianity because men with women is considered the way it is meant to be i.e. Adam and Eve story. Not harmful, just not God’s way. People who act like that in the video are too concerned about THEIR way because if they kept following God’s way of things, whether considered right or wrong, you wouldn’t be treated like that!!
Whoa!!!! I never actually read the bible…bible stories maybe, but only from a childrens book because those stories were good.
but overlobstering is yourself is gluttony.
Well, ok, I see what you’re saying but maybe I’d have a little more sympathy if Christians did take the lobster sin literally, jk
