I’ve Created A Monster?

2009 May 14

I don’t know what it is, but it’s definitely not human-like but it could be the lost link that proves evolution.  In the last post I said after writing that post that I might do some Blender(ing) and then I said I probably wouldn’t.  Well, I didn’t, but since my starvation has no effect on my listening abilities I went to youtube.  First, I found this video on how to customize the Blender interface.  Which was helpful since I obviously have problems with switching and rotating to look at the desired views.  The next day I did it, unfortunately the next day, even after eating, I still didn’t want to read about how to do this.  So, I went back on youtube and most of the tutorials with voices were by people with accents and I can’t understand half that stuff and they were talking fast.  Plus there were a lot of tutorials without voices, it’s like, what am I supposed to do with that?! Read off the screen, haha, don’t think so.  I found this really cool teacher that speaks Texan (or just teaches in Texas) anyways, he has some good tutorials.  I stuck to the ones teaching about sculpting since I want to create my own….thing!   Then I used Elltube to transfer the youtube videos to .FLV files to watch the videos offline, since running a web browser and Blender is impossible on my computer. So, enough of that, here’s my poorly done monster and I’ll type on the other side…don’t laugh…

frontmonstersidemonsterLets start with what I’ve achieved.  I learned how to use the sculpting tools, how to add hair and actually style the hair.  I’ve also learned how to use the particle mode and snap the particle thing onto the mold thing…Oh, and I learned how to position the camera in a faster way.

Anyways, what I don’t know how to do is add eyes.  What you see in the pictures are just two spheres that I’ve place in the mold to give the “appearance” of eyes.  I didn’t even know how to color them to look like eyes and when I tried one turned a different color.  Apparently my graphics card hates Blender.  While combing the hairs, which takes forever to get just right, anyways, my computer monitor went off 3 times and I had to restart the computer 3 times.  Eventually my computer decided to tell me that it was my graphics card.  I just rolled back the software to the previous updates and it worked long enough for me to finish this.  Um…nothing else to report and next time I plan to make something actually move or create a whole bodied…thing…

Go ahead and call it that! It’s already better-looking than me!
By the way, that Blender Basics book I recommended to you has been updated, in case you’re interested.

Well, technically it was my friend who wanted me to call it that. Not saying you and the monster have similarities, but…
