Don’t Go In That Scary Monkey Room
Well, contrary to what my last post said about me learning Blender til summer, I think I got the gist of it, though I still have to learn how to do more advanced stuff. I know all the important short keys like, space, s, g, r keys. I also have to learn how to quickly position the camera thingy, it took forever for me to get everything in frame. So, this is what I came up with last night, oh and thanks to Omar for suggesting this site called Blender Tutorials. Its a very straight forward and easy site to understand. So, first here’s my picture, I call it, “Don’t Go In That Scary Monkey Room”, couldn’t think of any thing else
What I have worked on was trying to do lighting, coloring, and figuring out how to place meshes. Apparently rotating objects in a 3D type view confuses me. My next goal is to learn how to create a mesh. With this picture I wanted to have the monkey doing something crazy to the purple monkey, like sucking out brains or something. But, thats not gonna happen until I can create a mesh…at least I think thats what I would have to do. So, my next goal is to create a mesh of something and then to make something move. I don’t think I’ll use the monkeys again, I kind of want to create a person that walks and says “Hello, stupid”. That might have to wait til the summer, but apparently I said that in the last post and I couldn’t wait. Blender is fun I’ll probably spend most of my time trying to perfect my skills…well, I don’t know if I’d call them skills, but I couldn’t think of another word.
The inspiration for this is the fact that I was just trying to get the hang of stuff. I actually don’t like monkeys by the way, maybe Blender could add a default teddy bear or cat for the next upgrade, if there is one.

Oh, my goodness. That grey monkey ran a big, red cone through the purple monkey’s head! Is this the primate version of Saw?
A few small hints that you may or may not have figured out already:
-After using G/S/R, you can then press X, Y or Z once (global values) or twice (local values) to use just one axis when moving, rotating or scaling.
-For camera placement, go into camera view while having the camera selected (and in camera view), go to editing buttons (F9) and select Passepartout to darken the stuff that won’t be in the frame. Change the Alpha to darken/lighten the effect.
-You can move the camera in or out (in camera view) by pressing G, followed by the middle click. If you middle-click while rotating, you’ll be able to aim the camera a bit easier. I don’t recommend that for drastic rotations, though.
As for the monkey … well, at that time, the Blender community was crazy about monkeys, so they added that as a default object. It’s Suzanne the monkey!
By the way, you said you had downloaded a Blender Basics PDF, was it this one? I read through it once, and found it not too difficult. Even goes a bit into animation and how to make a small game.
Good luck!
I am horrible at naming things, and I wish I would have thought of “Saw” or another movie before creating this post lol. Thanks, for the tips, they will definitely come in handy. I actually got a pdf called Noob to Pro. The name is what attracted me, but I only got to page 20 and even then I skipped pages in between LOL.
And I suppose if the monkey is called Suzanne, then I could warm up to it. Girl monkeys are a little better then guy monkeys, I never liked Abu. Something about him rubbed me the wrong way lol
Pleased to meet a fellow Blender student, even though I had to laboriously pick your blog out of a bunch of others mourning the untimely demise of a certain music industry magazine.
I’m learning but haven’t gotten as far as you did. After reading your blog it seems like you would also like a Bear then a monkey. Maybe I’ll attempt to make a bear. Glad you stopped by, and I never even realizes Blender magazine was about music….maybe that was their problem lol.
When I was first trying out Blender, I couldn’t find its homepage because that evil magazine would be at the top of the search results. Because of that, a whole year went by before I tried Blender again.
So, good riddance!
What is this?
My Blender is DEAD. It got stuck in that monkey.
Oh, yeah, I think you have been told before that saying stuff like “stuck in that monkey” just doesn’t sound/look right
I’ve learned how to do the create a mesh thing so I am done with monkeys lol
Keep going’ I’ll follow you guys later
