The Bury Brigade Strikes Again

2008 September 7

Well, this has been an on going story since before I first heard about the Bury Brigade in early August. First, I want to tell folks how I first came to know of this Bury Brigade conspiracy, which might not be an actually conspiracy. It start with a story on the LA Times website talking about the Bury Brigade. In that article, blogger Jed Lewison of the Jed Report said that his stories that were submitted on Digg were being buried. Many other bloggers were complaining about this also. The stories would get buried quickly even after having many hundreds of people who Dugg the story. When a substantial amount of people Bury the story it gets buried and removed from the front page of the Digg.com page. The reason why I thought it was weird is because these stories would have only appeared on the front page for a while before being buried, which suggests that theres an organized group of people who quickly Bury these stories before they get too popular (having only under 1000 Diggs) and thats why the stories get removed from the front page.

Also, whats extremely weird is that only anti-McCain stories for the most part were being buried. LA Times blog reported that 28 negative McCain stories were buried in 30 days. I have also learned today that someone complied a list of the the top 50 Digg users who Bury stories. The top person on that list has particularly stuck to Digging stories that have nothing to do with politics. Also Muhammad Saleem has discovered a cool way of tracking buried stories. But, I did find this site, BuryBrigade.com, who “says” they give up, but who knows I bet this is some kind of trick to throw Bury Brigade hunters off.

Today, when I went to Digg.com I noticed that the majority of the front page under politics was labeled as “Reported By Diggers As Possibly Inaccurate’, so I took screenshots and notice that the majority of these stories aren’t even inaccurate, and its quite weird that they would even be labeled as so,

Based on the fact that this is done on Digg.com (the Internet) leads me to believe that old people aren’t doing this. Considering the fact that these are all political sites that are being Buried leads me to believe that these people are political lovers. Also seeing as how these are all anti-McCain stories lead me to believe that these people are McCain supporters. So, I can not confidently say that these are nerdy McCain supporters.
